MEETING

A brief meeting was conducted after dinner. The meeting opened with the usual Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes of September 16 Meeting were approved as published in the newsletter.

Treasurer’s Report was presented by Treasurer Dave Walton. Moved, seconded, approved.

Public Service Report Public Service Coordinator Darryl Fowler said there were no BARC public service events to report this month.

Clubhouse Committee Report Clubhouse Committee Chairman Darryl Fowler reported that he was out of town and that only four people showed up for the scheduled meeting which was postponed for lack of significant attendance. Although the meeting was announced and a substitute chair was appointed, there may have been a miscommunication problem. The next meeting will be held on the first Thursday of November.

BARC President Chris Stauter asked about progress on the tower installation and Fred reported that informal discussions had continued about optional construction details. Henry reported that he had talked with the Bellbrook Zoning Coordinator and was told that the proposed tower is a permitted use within the Bellbrook zoning regulations.

Education Report was presented by Fred Stone. Classes will continue through November 7 and the Test Session is scheduled for November 14, 6:00 PM, at Beavercreek Township Fire Station 1.

New Business Henry proposed that several people meet to go through the odds and ends acquired primarily from Clyde Schaffnit’s estate to determine what we needed to keep for Club use and what we can sell or otherwise dispose of. He proposed displaying items on tables in the Clubhouse for members to review and buy if interested. Fred suggested that we also announce a garage sale type event and invite other hams in the area to attend—maybe sometime in November. Tim suggested that this could be done in conjunction with the Test & Tune Session scheduled for November 27. Consideration of this proposed event can be discussed and finalized at the next Clubhouse Committee meeting.

The meeting ended with a big round of applause for BARC Activity Coordinator Todd Rardon for his efforts in organizing the Chili Supper and making it a very successful event. It was agreed that this should be an annual event. Also, the providers of the Chili and associated food items were acknowledged and thanked.

Adjournment The meeting adjourned around 8:45 PM.

BARC Test & Tune Session

Tim Procuniar N8NQH proposed at the September meeting that BARC hold a Test & Tune Workshop from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 27 at the Clubhouse. Tim offered to set up a special "test bed" (professional communications service monitor, watt meter, 12 volt power supply and dummy load) for testing VHF/UHF HT’s and mobile units and making minor frequency and modulation adjustments as needed. No repairs will be attempted during the limited allotted time. Make sure your HT battery pack is charged.

Initial testing will be limited to two radios per member. Additional radios might be tested if time allows. Owners need to be present to assist Tim with operating their radios (bring your manual).

Tim will provide the radio’s owner with a check-sheet summarizing the measured transmit power, transmit frequency error,  modulation level, PL tone encode level, PL tone frequency error, receiver sensitivity, squelch range, PL tone decode, etc.

Anderson Powerpole® connectors and crimping tool also will be available. This would be a great time to standardize your 12-volt DC power cables with Powerpole® connectors for quick and easy interchangeability—for testing or for swapping out at Field Day or in an emergency situation.

BARC Annual Election of Officers

In accordance with BARC’s Constitution & By-Laws, an election of officers for 2011 will be held at the December meeting. Nominations will be made at the November meeting. Current officers are eligible to run for re-election if interested. The Junior Director moves up to Senior Director and a new Junior Director needs to be elected. The one year term for new (or re-elected) officers begins at the conclusion of the December meeting.

BARC 2011 Dues Are Now Payable
